Students in this class will learn that second language learning involves not only acquisition of a second language, but of a second culture as well. Language learners, and teachers, bring their own world views, assumptions and beliefs into the classroom, affecting their construction of meaning in the second language. The interaction of language and culture may have important pedagogical implications that teachers need to consider, including the target culture, inter-cultures that may be present in the classroom, and the learners expectations concerning language learning and teaching. What learners expect from Native Speakers and Non-Native Speakers is also relevant, as is what teachers expect, and what they get, from different cultures in teaching situations.
Students will be aware of the effects of culture, inter-culture, globalisation and the internet on language, language teaching and learning, and be able to apply this knowledge in practical classroom setting
