About the Programme |
: |
Department of Islamic History and Arts was opened in 1993 following the establisment of the Ç.U. Divinity Faculty. The Department of Islamic History and Arts consisting of the fields of Islamic History, Turkish-Islamic Literature, Turkish-Religious Music, and History of Turkish-Islamic Arts aims to study and to teach the historical, social, and cultural aspects of the religion, and its contributions to those fields. Via these fields, the basic topics of the almost fourteen-century-old Islamic History are covered; the political, social events and cultural developments which have taken place along that period are comparatively analysed and comprehensive studies on Turkish History and Civilisation are conducted. With the help of this education, students gain a historical viewpoint on Turkish-Islamic culture as well as becoming skilfull at reading archive documents and distinguishing features of the architectural heritages. Students also have the opportunity to acquire a rich literary language and taste in poetry and music.
Post graduate courses in the fields of Islamic History and Turkish-Islamic Literature are also offered in our department.
Department of Islamic History and Arts has expanded its academic staff since its establishment. Currently there are three associate proffesors (Islamic History), one assistant professor (Turkish-Islamic Literature), two instructors (Islamic History and Turkish-Religious Music), and three research assistans in the department.
Finding qualified academicians for our fields, increasing academic activities, forming an effective management, and opening doctoral programmes are among our primary goals.
