Learning Outcomes of the Course : 1. Knows indicators of the healthy human measure and has preventive approach medicine.
2. Knows the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of internal medicine
3. Knows doses of commomly used drugs by age, their effects and side effects and condition to be used
4. Knows the criteria and conditions referring to hospital
5. Takes detailed history related to the problem and makes physical examination
6. Approaches to the problem,plans treatment plan, and sorts according to importance
7. Makes fluid and electrolyte therapy
8. Expounds X-ray graphies relating to departments.
9.Knows ethical and legal aspects of diagnosis and treatment procedures and evaluate the economic burden for the country
10. Prepare patient file, do the recordings properly , reprensents and discuss with team, and wrties epicrisis.
11. Establishes responsive and effective communication with patients and their relatives,
12. Learns working in harmony with colleagues and medical staff

Aim(s) of Course : This course aims to encourage the students to practically apply their kanowledge of obtaining the anamnesis, performing physical examination and evaluating laboratory findings to diagnose diseases of different disciplines related to internal medicine (rheumatology, allergy and immunology, hematology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, oncology and nephrology), as well as good prescribing. The course contains performance of practical skills intensively in the wards on hospitalized patients and in the out-patient clinic.

Course Contents : Internal medicine internship is for 12 weeks. There is no planned theoretical lecture during the course. All the cases and subjects are discussed on bedside or in round table meetings. 4 weeks are designated for service activities and other four weeks are preserved for outpatient unit. The responsibilities of interns working in the service are the same with the internal medicine residents except signing the official documents and prescriptions. These activities include preparation of the patients’ file, requesting lab analysis, filling the files, presentation of the patients during visits, requesting consultation form other departments, following all the vital signs, performing all invasive procedures, planning the medication etc. They are also responsible from discharging patients. They have to work with residents and specialists under the control of professors. They have to perform the abovementioned activities at night duties. Interns working in outpatient unit have to perform similar activities for patients applied to outpatient unit as preparation of the patients’ file, requesting lab analysis, filling the files, presentation of the patients to consultants, requesting consultation form other departments and finalizing the patients’ file by prescribing or any kind of recommendations. They have to do these activities under supervision of consultant professors.
