Learning Outcomes of the Course |

Explain the emergence of political science and its relations with other branches of the social sciences. Explain with which issues political science is traditionally interested in . Identify the major concepts of political science (like power, authority, legitimacy, sovereignity, citizenship, the state, nation, ethnicity, class) and particularly main elements of the state. Analyse the emergence and development of nation-state. Explain the main actors in political life, forms of political participation and the factors that affect the participation. Define democracy and modernization and analyse relationship between democracy and modernization with regard to theoretical knowledge. Explain major concepts and theories of International Relations.

Aim(s) of Course |
: |
The main objective of this course is to analyse the issues and developments of political science and the basic concepts, approaches and methods used by political scientists. It particularly focuses on the concepts and issues like politics, legitimacy, power, authority, government and sovereignity, nation and nationalism, political culture, political participation (parties, interest groups and social movements), modernization and democracy. In this course, also, the formation of the nation-state and globalization will be discussed. |
