Learning Outcomes of the Course |
: |
Explains the emergence of political science and its relations with other branches of the social sciences. Explains issues traditionally interested in political science. Identifies the major concepts of political science (like power, authority, legitimacy, sovereignty, citizenship, the state, nation, ethnicity, class) and particularly main elements of the state. Analyses the emergence and development of nation-state. Explains the main actors in political life, forms of political participation and the factors that affect the participation. Defines the democracy and modernization and analyses relationship between democracy and modernization with regard to theoretical knowledge. Explains the major concepts and theories of International Relations.

Aim(s) of Course |
: |
The main objective of this course is to analyse the issues and developments of political science and the basic concepts, approaches and methods used by political scientists. It particularly focuses on the concepts and issues like politics, legitimacy, power, authority, government and sovereignty, nation and nationalism, political culture, political participation (parties, interest groups and social movements), modernization and democracy. In this course, also, the formation of the nation-state and globalization will be discussed. |

In this course, students will be introduced to basic themes, concepts, issues and debates in the study of politics. The objectives of this course will be to help students develop an ability to analyze the problems and complexities of political life and to provide students with solid grounding for advanced courses in international relations. |
