Learning Outcomes of the Course : Defines the basic concepts of ergonomics (definition, contents, historical background and relevant disciplines).
Define sthe system and modelling concepts; understands the difficulties in transferring ergonomic data to ergonomic information.
Explains the basic principles of anthropometric and biomechanical modelling.
Explains the properties of man-machine systems; evaluates the design and arrangement of controls and displays from the viewpoint of ergonomics.
Scrutinizes the effects of work environment and human senses in ergonomics
Arranges physical spaces in the design of workplace.
Correlates physical workload with energy expenditure.
Describes fatigue and types of fatigue, correlates the contraction types of muscles to fatigue; calculates the working and resting time.
Makes job analysis and time study.
Knows hazardous materials, works related musculoskeletal disorders and personal protective equipments.
Explains physical and mental performance, strategic plan, internal auditing and SWOT analysis, makes the flow diagram of performance management.
Evaluates the psychological and social elements of ergonomics.

Aim(s) of Course : The purpose of this course is to teach basic knowledge, skills and competences for a) designing of products and systems, b) optimize the working and living environment and c) improve quality of life including health, safety, comfort, aesthetic and sustainablility in order to match human’s anatomical, anthropometrical, biomechanical, physiological, cognitive and psychological capabilities and limitations, in particular, from the viewpoint of textile engineering.

Course Contents : The course contents address ergonomics knowledge with particular emphasis on textile engineering: The basic concepts of ergonomics (definition, contents, historical background, and its interdisciplinary character), systems and modelling, anthropometric and biomechanical modelling, man-machine systems, design and arrangement of controls and displays, human senses and work environment, physical space arrangement in workplace, physical workload and energy expenditure, fatigue and resting time, job design and time study, work health and safety, physical and mental performance, psychological and social dimensions of ergonomics. Ethical and professional issues are also addressed throughout the course.
