Learning Outcomes of the Course : Realizes the common matters between the religion and geography which are not seen at first sight.
Recognizes the religious imprint on landscape, culture and lifestyle.
Has the ability to explain the global distribution of major religions and the factors that have an effect on this distribution. Also,considering whether these factors might account for the observed patterns, students can look in closer detail at the patterns and processes of religious change.
Shows universal and ethnic religions and their distrubution and population density on the world map .
Categorizes the religions according to their birthplace and analyzes the common patterns between the religions which share the same-birthplace.
Learns sacred places of different religions and annual cycle of pilgrimage of believers.

Aim(s) of Course : The aim of this course is to determine the conceptual framework of the phenomenon of religion and by revealing the multidimensional nature of religion, explain how religious societies and different belief systems are distributed and how important and necessary the religious geography is.

Course Contents : Religious Geography investigates and displays population size and geographical expansion of religions, population mobility andlimits of religious belief and also explicates effects ofreligious organization and belief systems on social, demographical, cultural and politic characteristics. In this lesson, the places in which different religions and beliefs were born are identified and examined. In this lesson, the spread of these beliefs throughout the world in modern time and their areas of influence and population of believers are outlined.
