Learning Outcomes of the Course : Is informed on the historical origins of Turkish modernization.
Knows about the periods and processes that the Turkish Republic was founded after.
Analyzes the modernization problems of Modern Turkey.
Establishes the relationship between the current modernisation problems with the problems which happened in the past.
Explains the modernization process in Ottoman history.
Discusses the gains of democratic governments in terms of human rights.
Questions democratic movements in the Ottoman period.

Aim(s) of Course : To get the students comprehend the historical background of the foundation of Modern Turkey, to have an opinion related to the foundation of modern Turkish Republic with regards to the last term of Ottoman Empire, gain the ability to analyze the modernization problems, be informed about the birth of democracy, its development and practice.

Course Contents : The main focus of this course to inform students about the Westernization movements in modern Ottoman Period, and modernization of Turkey in the years of Constitutional Monarchy and modernization of Republican Period.
