Learning Outcomes of the Course : the students define old age in line with theories of aging
define the elderly population in line with demographic trends and statistical data
discuss physiological aspects of normal and pathological aging with along changes
define the importance of health promotion and preventive health care for the elderly
can be detected important physical and mental health problems and their impact on elderly individuals
determine basic geriatric syndromes and the effects of the individual patient
evaluate the problems of older people and their families at home, the community, acute care facilities and private spaces
determine the ethical and legal issues related to the care of an elderly individual

Aim(s) of Course : Students earn sufficient knowledge and skills. Also the theory and concepts of aging, process-related problems, to identify the physiological and psychological changes, appropriate nursing interventions, learning, caring for the elderly is to explain the legal and ethical dimension.

Course Contents : Introduction to resources and publications, Definition of Geriatric medicine, elderly population in the world and in our country, Physiological changes in the elderly, Mechanisms of aging and anti-aging, Psychosocial Requirements for Geriatric Diseases, Exam (for students with assignments assessed) ,Communicating with Geriatric Patients, Geriatric Patient Nutrition and Fluid Balance Nursing Home Visit, Drug use in Geriatric patients, To prevention home accidents and falls ,Quality of life in geriatrics and rehabilitation
