Learning Outcomes of the Course : Uunderstands and explains the basic concepts associated with the different branches of linguistics.
Identifies the phonetic properties of words, phrases and sentences.
Analyzes words, showing their structure and assigns the appropriate word formation processes to a variety of words with different forms.
Analyzes sentences, showing their structure and their constituents.
Analyzes sentences, showing the semantic roles realized by the different constituents in each sentence.
Transcribes words, phrases and sentences using the IPA system.

Aim(s) of Course : The aim of the course is to provide the students with the subject matter of language and linguistics with basic linguistic concepts through an overview of nature and universals of human language with its such aspects of sound structure and patterns, word and sentence structure, and the meanings of words and expressions

Course Contents : The course will cover several core areas of the study of nature and universals of human language, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics .
