Learning Outcomes of the Course : Learns Aristotelian psychology and its influences on epistemology
Knows that Aristotelian psychology was transferred to Islamic philosophy through Alexander and influenced Islamic philosophers.
Learns the presence of the influence on various opinions of Islamic philosophers in the different matters.

Aim(s) of Course : The course aims to provide the students with information on psychological principles of Aristotle about acquiring the knowledge and to comprehend the influences of those on epistemology of Medieval Islamic Philosophy.

Course Contents : The course covers the psychology of Aristotle in De Anima, comments of the antic and medieval commentators such as Themistius, Alexander, Philoponus, Simplicius and Averroes, and of the modern commentators like Ross, Hamlyn, Modrak, Bolton, Owens, Kahn, Barnes, Davis and Polansky, the influences of Alexander´s comments in particular to Islamic peripatetism, the examples of those influences on the logical works, such as Kitab al-Burhan and on theological works such as Ilahiyyat, of Islamic philosophers such as Alfarab and Avicenna.
