Course Code : SAİ-545

Course Type : Optional

Level of Course : Second Cycle

Year of Study : 1

Course Semester : Fall (16 Weeks)

ECTS : 6

Name of Lecturer(s) : Asst.Prof.Dr. GÖKHAN GÖKÇE

Learning Outcomes of the Course : Uses and practises of knowledge and skills for increasing the size and species selectivity with suitable design in codend or total gear, data collection methods and analyzes.
Designs selective fishing gear for sustainable fisheries.
Estimates the effect of selectivity parameters or results in stock management.

Mode of Delivery : Face-to-Face

Prerequisites and Co-Prerequisites : None

Recommended Optional Programme Components : None

Aim(s) of Course : Learns the improved selective device in trawl gears and also how the selectivity in codend or total gear is increased. In addition, teaching methods used in measure selectivity of the active gears and various analyzing methods made by available software and pocket programs.

Course Contents : Importance of selectivity, classification of trawl gears, trawl gear and its codend selectivity, methods used in selectivity measuring, analyses of data gathered by various methods (covered codend – paired gear) with available software, conducting a selectivity experiment, reporting of results and the use of selectivity data in fish stock assessment.

Language of Instruction : Turkish
