  Course Description
Course Name : Agriculture and Environment

Course Code : TBP215

Course Type : Compulsory

Level of Course : First Cycle

Year of Study : 2

Course Semester : Fall (16 Weeks)

ECTS : 3

Name of Lecturer(s) : Prof.Dr. VEYİS TANSI

Learning Outcomes of the Course : Comprehends the effects of climatic changes on agricultural production and its possible results
.Learns information about the reactions of some basic crop groups.
Evaluates the future and predicted impact of the environmental constraints on the yield paremetres and environmental determinants of agricultural productivity

Mode of Delivery : Face-to-Face

Prerequisites and Co-Prerequisites : None

Recommended Optional Programme Components : None

Aim(s) of Course : this course examines the case for man-induced climatic changes, role of agriculture in these apperent changes, and the impact of those changes on agriculture. Most of the crops of major economic consequnce are considered and the impacts of environmental changes are reviewed. Crops that are important for human food (wheat, rice, soybean, vegetable crops and root and tuber crops) are examined. Crops that are used primarily as animal foods(maize, sorghum, prıductive forage crops and rangelands) are also reviewed. Crops crowmn primarily for fibers, such as cotton are included as well. The impacts of environmental factors on various physiological processes and on the yield of the hatvestable componens are evaluated. Plants with C4 and C3 type photosynthesis are compared for their sensitiviies to likely environmental changes

Course Contents : Overwiev of climate change and global crop productivity: agricultural contributions to greenhouse emissions, crop ecosystem responses to climatic change: wheat, maize & sorgum, vegetable crops, grassland, cotton, root and tuber crops

Language of Instruction : Turkish

Work Place : Class
