Learning Outcomes of the Course : Explains the basic concepts related to education (learning, teaching, education, formal and informal education, curriculum, teaching program, syllabus etc.)
Defines types of education and gives examples.
Explains the relationship between education as a division of science with its other divisions of science (Philosophy, sociology, Economy, Psychology and Law, etc...) as a science.
Discusses the objectives and the functions of the education system.
Explains the importance and the difficulties of carrying out a research in Educational Sciences.
Becomes aware of the importance of teaching as a profession.
Explains the duties and responsibilities of a teacher in a school and class environment.
Discusses the features of a modern teacher.
Analyzes the structure of Turkish education system.
Becomes aware of the modern tendencies in educational sciences.
Gives examples to the research methods used in educational sciences.

Aim(s) of Course : It is aimed to form an understanding about basic concepts of education, objectives and functions of education and the relationship of teaching and education as a profession with the other branches of science.

Course Contents : Basic concepts of education, the relationship between education and other sciences, and the functions (education, philosophical, social, legal, Psychological, economic, political), historical development of science education, 21st century trends in educational sciences, education, science, research methods, structure and properties of the Turkish National Education System, The role of the teacher education system, teaching profession, teacher education practices and developments in the field
