Identify the concepts and theories developed by political scientists working from a woman-centered or a feminist perspective. Develop the ability to critically engage with the "malestream" concepts, theories and methods developed and employed in the study of politics and international relations. Identify and analyze the complex relationship between women and politics. Identify the diversity of women´s political activism in different regions of the world. Identify and analyze women´s involvement in nationalist and religious movements in the world.

The course aims to increase knowledge of the complex relationships between “women” and “politics” through study of the concepts and theories developed by political scientists working from a woman-centred or a feminist perspective. |

Course Contents |
: |
This course explores the key aspects of women’s political activism in a way that reflects a broader notion of the “political”. It points to the diversity of sites and practices of women’s political activism by focusing on women’s movements, women’s engagement with the state in different regions of the world, and women’s involvement in democratic transitions, and in nationalist and religious movements in the developing world. It also pays particular attention to feminist debates on citizenship, representation, nationalism, and the role of the state in constructing, maintaining and altering gendered relations of power. |
