Learning Outcomes of the Course |

Explain the emergence of political science and its relations with other branches of social sciences. Explain issues traditionally related to political science. Identify major concepts of political science (like power, authority, legitimacy, sovereignty, citizenship, the state, nation, ethnicity, class) and particularly main elements of the state. Analyze the emergence and development of nation-state. Explain the main actors in political life, forms of political participation and the factors that affect the participation. Define the democracy and modernization and analyse the relationship between democracy and modernization with regard to theoretical knowledge. Explain major concepts and theories of International Relations.

Aim(s) of Course |
: |
The main objective of this course is to analyse the issues and developments of political science and the basic concepts, approaches and methods used by political scientists. It particularly it focuses on the concepts and issues like politics, legitimacy, power, authority, government and sovereignty, nation and nationalism, political culture, political participation (parties, interest groups and social movements), modernization and democracy. In this course, also, the formation of the nation-state and globalization will be discussed. |

In this course, students will be introduced to basic themes, concepts, issues and debates in the study of politics. The objectives of this course will be to help students develop an ability to analyze the problems and complexities of political life and to provide students with solid grounding for advanced courses in international relations. |
