Identifies the rules of pre-assessment of physical activity and exercise stress testing
Calculates and evaluates body mass index
Knows the basic types of exercise and prepares exercise prescription for a healthy individual
Knows the physical growth, sexual and mental development of adolescents
Knows and notices the most common growth and development problems of adolescents
Knows the preventive approach to adolescent athlete
Knows the health effects of substance and tobacco
Knows and understands the importance of personal hygiene and healthy eating
Knows the stages of behavior change and the 5A method

Aim(s) of Course : Students are expected to gain knowledge, skills and attitude about the effects of physical activity on individual and public health; national and international best practices to increase physical activity; necessary conditions for a healthy exercise; adolescents’ physical growth, sexual and mental development, growth and development issues, general approach to adolescent athletes and their protection; basic exercise types, preparing appropriate exercise prescription for healthy individuals.

Course Contents : The effects of physical activity and fitness on health, ´right exercise is the medicine´ campaign, national and international guidelines and practices, Turkey’s national action plan to combat obesity, objectives and strategies for the prevention of obesity, 2010 ACSM´s Guidelines For Exercise Testing and Prescription, exercise risks, pre-assessment before beginning a physical activity, exercise stress testing, contraindications and red flags for exercise, the basic types of exercise, exercise prescription for healthy individuals, physical growth, sexual and mental development, growth and development issues of adolescents, general approach to adolescent athlete, the health effects of substance and tobacco use, personal hygiene, nutrition, stages of behavior change, the 5A method for behavior change.
