Aim(s) of Course |
: |
The course aims to introduce the legal system of Ottoman family, property, debts, inheritance and land, provide information about the foundations and its functioning in the Ottoman Empire, introduce slaves and the law applied to them, compare Ottoman public and private legal system with the legal system today and give information about the changes occurring in the Ottoman legal system after Tanzimat. |

The course will deal with the roots of public law and organization of the Ottoman Empire, public law and the organization of the Ottoman Empire, Divan-i Humayun and important government officials, organization of the Ottoman court, non-muslims in the Ottoman Empire, general and special provisions in the Ottoman criminal law, The legal system of slavery, foundations, the Ottoman family, inheritance and land, the development of Turkish law after the reformation(Tanzimat), the development of European law and Turkish legal system after the reformation (Tanzimat). |
