Learning Outcomes of the Course |

The student knows social and child health indicators The student knows approach to diagnosis and treatment of common childhood diseases in the community The student tells and explains doses of the frequent used drugs by age,their effects and side effects The student knows the criteria and conditions referring to hospital The student takes detailed history related to the problem The student makes comprehensive examination The student should be able to evaluate children admitted to the emergency department take Initiatives for the immediate diagnosis and treatment of poisoning and trauma patients and should be able to apply the basic principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in children The student makes anthropometric measurements, and make comments on the results The student should know ethical and legal aspects of diagnosis and treatment procedures and evaluate the economic burden for the country The student provides the information of the patients, discusses with the team, makes approach to the problem and writes patient report

Aim(s) of Course |

The aim of the course is to give the final year medical student the experience in different areas of pediatrics from healthy to desperately ill child and from most common illnesses to those requiring extensive diagnostic studies |

Course Contents |
: |
Lectures: Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition, Clinical Genetics, Hematology, Oncology, Immunology, Infectious diseases, Social Pediatrics. Clinical practice: Initial contact with hospitalized patient (taking history, physical examination), performing basic laboratory procedures (e.g, peripheral blood smear, haematocrit, urine analysis, stool microscopy and reducing substances, etc.), attending morning reports, clinical rounds, seminars, journal clubs, 4 night calls per month at the wards or emergency service, rotation at the general outpatient clinic for 3 days |
