Language awareness, understand basic linguistic concepts, establish the relationship between linguistics and language teaching, learn about the development of languages in the world, their interactions and also learn about basic language theories. Comprehend the discipline of linguistics with its fundamental constituents and assumptions, understand the concept of language as sa system of sign and analyze its basic components. |

A short history of linguistics, basic assumptions, basic questions and problems of linguistics; modern approaches towards linguistics; signs and sign systems; language as a system; basic properties of human language; components of linguistics (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics). |
