Learning Outcomes of the Course |
: |
Internalizes the studies on religions during the period of Ottoman Empire. Evaluates the information given on the other religions by Ottoman scholars. Discerns the strong and weak aspects of the studies on religions in the Ottoman Empire. Knows the western pioneers of history of religions, and learns their basic opinions and approaches. Has the ability to make some comparisons between modern studies on history of religions and early Muslim studies. Gains advanced level knowledge in religious studies and especially in history of religions.

Aim(s) of Course |

The 19th century witnessed a dramatic increase of knowledge about other cultures and religions. The "history of religions" course seeks to account for this religious diversity by connecting it with a particular group. |

Course Contents |
: |
In this lesson students are informed about the historical progress of the History of Religions as a discipline. Particularly, studies on the History of Religion in Ottoman Period are stressed. Also, progress of the History of Religion in the West is analyzed in context of prominent historians. Thus, by comparing the studies held in the East and West, they can analyze the interaction between them. |
