Learning Outcomes of the Course : Has knowledge about differences of the language and dialects spoken in different Arabic countries. Identifies regional differences in Arabic and compares dialects.

Aim(s) of Course : To study dialects of the Arabic language. to determine language differences between regions. to identify the role of social, geographical and cultural impacts on the formation of different dialects within the same language, ,. to study the phonetics of Arabic dialects. to understand the differences in the languages of various Arabic speaking countries.

Course Contents : academic / formal and colloquial / informal Arabic. Arabic: Language of the Qur´an. language of the media: films and television series. Damascus dialects. Dialects of the Arabian peninsula. Dialects of the Gulf countries. Africa and the dialects of Arabic. Phonetic characteristics of Arabic. Phonetic changes in time.
