Learning Outcomes of the Course |
: |
Knows theoretically how to start working on a geological studies in the field. Knows how to use geological compass. Draws topographic and geological cross-section;
knows how to measure columnar section and sedimentological logs.
Knows the “V” rules and mapping techniques. Defines the attitude of planar and linear structures. Knows all geological symbols during this course and solves and interprets the geological problems in the field. Increases thinking ability on three dimension.

Aim(s) of Course |
: |
Field Geology ll aims to prepare students for working in the Field. In this course, all practical field related to general subjects are given to the students in the field. To teach the structures and properties of the rocks; prepare mapping, measuring stratigraphical sections, to gain the interpretation ability by using the structural elements from the prepared geological maps. |

Course Contents |
: |
Application of field investigation methods, which is theoretically given in the course of Field Geology I; Use of the compass and field equipment. Direction measurement, traverse method. Use of the topographical maps, definitions of a particular location in the field and mark it on the base map, drawing boundary contact and panel diagrams. Methods of geological mapping, definition of lithostratigraphic units. Sampling methods, geological cross sections. Schematic sections and panoramic diagrams. Stratigraphic thickness measurement by means of Brunton compass, tape meter and Jacob. |
