Aim(s) of Course : The development of Old Turkish Literature; literary personalities of poets and writers of this period and the characteristics of this period that lasted between the 10th to 14th centuries, which Turkish Literature was under effect of Islamic culture. Reading, understanding, explaining and examining of the sample writings of this period in same years. Testing the written works and the Masnavis of the13th and 14th centuries.

Course Contents : Pre-Islamic period of Turkish Literature. Characteristics of the new era developed under the influence of Islam. Disciplines of Islamic culture, Karahanlı Turkish Literature, Kutadgu Bilig, Divanu Lugati’t-Türk, Atabetü’l-Hakayık. Tezkire-i Satuk Buğra Han; Mukaddimetü’l-Edeb, Şecere-i Ensâb, the Sufi thought system. Middle East Turkish Sufism Literature and representative Turkish Sufis, sufism, Ahmed-i Yesevî, Hakîm Süleyman Ata, Şair Ali. Progressing Turkish Literature in 13. century. Lives, literary personalities and analysis of sample texts of Bektaş-ı Velî and Mevlânâ Celâleddin-i Rûmî, Sultan Veled, Yunus Emre, Ahmed Fakih, Şeyyâd Hamza, Dehhânî, Tursun Fakih. 14. Century Turkish Literature. 14. Century Middle East Turkish Literature. Rabgûzî, Mahmud Bin Ali, İslâm, Kutb, Harezmî, Seyf-i Serâyî, Ebû Hayyân, Hüsâm Katip. Works written Eastern Turkic: Codex Cumanicus, Bahtiyâr-nâme, mirâc-nâme, tezkiretü’l-evliyâ. 14. Century Azeri Turkish Literature. Sample poems of Hasanoğlu and Nesîmî. Lives, literary personalities and works of Gülşehrî, Âşık Paşa and Hoca Mes‘ud, Şeyhoğlu Mustafa, Eflâkî, Ahmedî, Kadı Burhaneddin.
